Just one look at Kate and you'll know she is great. She graciously invited me to check out her fabulous folk dolls created in fabric. Katie has been sewing since she is 7 and it has been a joy to know her. Her dolls all have such personality and Kate my favorite is still "Marge with the big mouth". Cielle is a close second in my books. Katie has been an inspiration to me on many occasions. She helped look after my booth and even encouraged me to paint an elephant en plein air, at the Airdrie Empty Bowls Festival a few years back. I totally forgot about this but somehow either her or her camera know how to do this stuff with stretching faces. We laughed our heads off. No more dignified look here, but on the lighter side of life I do LOVE comedy so if it can make you laugh here goes!

Having tea with a friend and fellow artist is such and inspiration to me. Today I stopped by Veronica Funk's house and immediately she hugs me, takes my hand and says "Come see my studio." Veronica and I have been friends for several years and she still amazes me. We run downstairs and into her studio which she has rearranged again. Here we see a corner of the space looking so vibrant and inviting. Her work is so alive and rich in color and her paintings make me want to jump right into the scenes.

I always get so excited that I want to go home and create again. Thanks for letting me drool over your latest work, tea, and conversation (while listening to Stevie Nicks, which we both love) about paint and pigments. Thanks for always encouraging the artist in me to come out to play!!!!

This is Jess and She is dressed and ready to dance tonight. She is sooooo gifted in the arts and willing to share them in a multitude of ways. This young woman is an amazing visual artist, actor, singer, songwriter, and I am so very proud of her. This evening I get to be a part of the audience that she will delight with her dance. You go girl!!!!! Jess is also featured here as a painted human canvas, living art, walking, moving, breathing. She is my featured Masterpiece of the week!!!! I told her she would make a pretty cute "JESTER" ha.

Recently while dining with a friend, I felt compelled to take this photo. Who can resist the beauty of candlelight? I have always loved how light reflects and changes atmosphere and brings forth ambiance. One of my observations is that is doesn't take alot of light to expel darkness, just even one tiny light can bring great change. It is my hope that my life could be a light in others darkness and give back a reflection of who I am created to be. Notice the prism effect of this hurricane lantern, bringing more beauty into the space. O.K. so it doesn't take much to entertain me and I have just exposed my romantic heart, but I encourage you all to drink in the beauty that surrounds you today and begin to see light in small things as that can really be the big things!

While I have not posted in quite a while, I do think it was good to just be still and be! Reflecting on where I have been in life and where I am now is just fine with me. I took the last year off of much of my visual arts and entered the world of Theatre. I completed my first year of Theatre school and learned so much about me along the way. Somehow part of the journey for me was to reclaim my voice. There is a lovely kids show out called "Finding Nemo" Perhaps my time at school was helping me find "Me" mo. So maybe I was the work of art worth taking the time to invest in.

But the most beautiful work of art that I have recently had the opportunity to meet is my new grandson! Wow, the most adorable little man you have ever seen! O.k. so I am a little bias on that one, but Wow! While he has not given me permission to give his name out, and I would like to protect his privacy, I can say that he came into this world at a whopping 8lbs and 7oz and measured 22 inches long. My kids have been asking for months if I would like to be called Grandma or Nana, Gran or Nan. Not sure yet and maybe I will let the little one decided for me. All I know is that this is a genuine Masterpeice, totally original little priceless one. He took 9 months to bake and came out soooooo perfectly well done! When you look at the marvels of creation, I said to my son "How can they say there is no God?" To me this living little replica of my son and his wife prove to me that there is!

Getting back to Theatre, I have discovered that I love all aspects of it except hanging lights till 3am. I really enjoy costuming and design and have helped costuming for several shows. In my visual arts life I have been working on altered shoes and some mixed media and encaustic work.
Hope life finds you well my friends on this blustery winter night! As we say in Canada (Actually a little bit of RED GREEN here for you "Keep your stick on the ice, we are all in this together".

"The Jumping Bridge"

Not sure if the locals call this bridge by this name, but it is where the bridal party, family and several guests did jump from. The lower part of the bridge is 16 - 18 ft from the water and the top of the bridge is about 20 ft from the water. This location was about a 15 minute car ride from the property we stayed at. From this spot it would take 4 hours to float on tubes down the river back to our place. What a blast these guys had.

On the way home, we had to stop so many times as our car overheated going through one of the mountain passes. Thankfully we found a mechanic who could solve our problem, just a wee bit before he was closing his shop. It provided an awesome opportunity for some breathtaking photo shots.

There is no flying without wings! I had some fun here and found these extra photo right in Kristen's book and took the liberty of re-adjusting them here. The dog got a bow tie, and some leggings. On the right I could not resist this photo of this little Inuit girl, what a doll! I can almost hear her giggle. What a Princess! I even had the chance to see my Inuit friend this last week and what a pleasant gift and surprise that was to me! My heart feels full!

Kristen's Altered Art Book Continued!

One of my first jobs fresh out of high school was at a Professional Ph otography Studio. I had gone to Edmonton, the big city near us in search of work. Totally felt like a fish out of water, and what a relief when I got a call from my mother. She said that a friend had called and said they were looking for someone at a local photography shop and was I interested? I quickly came home had the interview with my new boss, and yeah got the job.

My job in those days was to be receptionist/bookkeeper. In addition they hired me because I was an artist and knew that I could, with the use brush and inks retouch old photographs that people would bring in. I recall some really damaged and cracked portraits that I managed to work on and bring them to a restored state. I enjoyed that work, though it was challenging at times. So on the left I found some fabric of dolls I had and cut one up. Perhaps a memory of the photos before they were touched up, and remembered the days of working in that shop. On the right, I used gel media and pasted in a piece of my dismantled canvas that has been going in all the Airdrie 7 gals books!

My children's art are some of my favorite pieces in my home. My son's teacher when he was in grade 6 , had the students do these sculptures. He designed the arrow and then had help to press his face through. I love that face of my Beloved son. He is grown now and getting married to His Beloved in a month from now. I am well pleased!!!!!! While it will be a change as he gets ready to move out with his new bride, there is a delight in my heart as I know that he has choosen well. Together now they will press through into what the future holds for them!

My Thoughts On Imperfection!

What is perfect anyways? A perfect world, what would that look like? For me that would probably be a place where there were no more wars, famine,hunger, disease, poverty, orphans and widows. A safe place where all would be well, where every child would be fed, held, and given a tuck in at night. I guess a perfect world would mean different things to different people.

I've come to realize that in my art, I am not looking for perfection. I am simply looking to explore, express, press boundaries, create, to reveal, to play and have fun. If I stumble across great Masterpieces here and there, that is great, but not my ultimate goal.

Funny how sometimes I have to leave somethings undone. The marks left by human hands or brushstrokes on a canvas or paper intrigue me. In art school, one instructor may state "In art, its all about rules!". You then proceed to the next class and the instructor says "In art, there are no rules?" Now, you have my attention! Honestly you are talking to a Sanguine, so who's class do you think I would opt for?????? Not that hard to figure out hey?

While I have great admiration and respect for perfection in art and those who strive for it, this is not my goal. I enjoying taking my lessons from nature too. When walking through a forest, I've noticed that a tree does not have to decide where it shall fall when its days are done. It simply falls. When I look at the bigger picture of where it fell and its surroundings, all looks well. I kinda feel like that tree too, where not all of my brushstrokes are calculated. Some are and some just fall. Somewhat like a dancing on the canvas. Notice too, how light still shines upon that scenery, no matter where that tree has fallen. Glorious Imperfection, Altogether Lovely!

Hopefully by now, you have figured out that if I can create, so can you! Light will shine on your work too, so step out in the deep and take that first step into your creative venture. I am always amazed at the doors that open up for me as I am simply creating and minding my own business.

Today finds me hanging art down at Target Health in Airdrie. They are located in the new Gold's Gym on Main Street. Anja and Jen came over the other evening and selected 11 pieces for me to hang. They contacted me and said they would love to display my work. It is a lovely Spa in town, and I am honored to be there! Thanks Ladies!

Katie, my inspiration! What would I do without my Katie??? Katie is Veronica's daughter and my 10 year old friend. What a doll she is! She helped me watch my booth at the Empty Bowls Festival. When I asked her what I should paint that day, she said "How about an Elephant?" Now having no reference and never having attempted one before, I checked with my assistant on how one should go about this. So Katie and I sized up my canvas which was set up on my pochade, and decided this is the way to go. She wanted the trunk to come up on the side. I am ever so glad to have had Katie there to challenge me that day. Nothing like being stetched on the spot. When I asked Katie, "Why an Elephant?" She quickly replied "Because you can paint Lions!" Growing up on the prairies of Alberta, I can appreciate this painting done by the Group of Seven. It reminds me of the small town that was near our farmstead. Susan has taken artistic liberty in painting over this copied image and adding her personal touch. On the right, we have her Window of Hope! This shows how our world can go from black and white to color. When we open that window in the next post you will see the color, she has added in.

Not a word of a lie here, honestly I do not pose my cat. I slipped into my studio one day and this is what I found. I mean really if I was going to sleep my afternoons away, I think I could perhaps find a more comfortable place. The good news here is that he has been found more often than not, curled up in a wicker basket. Maybe there is a message for me here to give my brushes a rest, and go enjoy the outdoors! "A Time For Green"

For all those interested in how the "Empty Bowls festival" went, I thought it was great. The event was very well organized, a sunny day to boot (trust me, with all the rain we have had this was so welcome!). There was face painting and clowns, musicians and bands. The bowls that were made for this were countless. I can not believe that amount of work that went into simply organizing that part. I picked up several bowls and am especially fond of the ones the children did. The soups and chilis donated by local resteraunts were sooooo good. People seemed to enjoy the "Airdirondack Chairs" that 11 local artists painted. We even had a chair ready and set for children to paint, and what a time they had. That chair will be on display in City Hall. To view some of the chairs, simply go to www.airdrie7.blogspot.com . The chairs will now be on display at several local businesses, banks, Ravenswood Show Homes, and City Hall. On October 14th, the chairs will be auctioned off, as a kick off to a Arts and Cultural Center in Airdrie!

"Chicken Scribble" Pen and Ink on w/c paper

Instead of Chicken Little, we have Chicken Scribble! Honestly this is what I had to do to finally finish my chair. I got my groove back and even got some funky bird show up in the background.

Looks like this bird is heading out early to the "Empty Bowls Festival" in Airdrie, next Saturday, June 12th. It is a fundraiser for the local Airdrie Foodbank. A local potter, in town builds a multitude of bowls and Simply Ceramics is involved too. Artists, students and residents paint the bowls. Several restaurants in Airdrie donate the soup and Voila, for $20.00, you get to pick a bowl, get the soup, eat, and keep the bowl. How cool is that? Also they will be having a silent auction and artists doing live demos in white tents. The Airdronadack chairs that have been painted will be on display as well. Last year I believe they raised around 10,000.00 in just a few hours. Great things can happen when a Community works together! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that "Empty Bowls" will be held at Nose Creek Park on Main St. in Airdrie.

O.K., So my groove did return after a good break. It felt good to take some time off and rethink this process through. To help myself charter onward, I took some watercolor paper and scribbled out a similar chicken, with pen and ink. Then adding a wash of colored inks, pleased with the process, I decided to proceed with the chair. You may view the chairs at the Empty Bowls Festival Fundraiser in Airdrie. I'll try to post more info on this closer to the date.

Well I am pleased to say that I am done my chair for the Empty Bowls Festival that will be held in Airdrie on Saturday June 12th. I've also had the opportunity to paint a few bowls that have been glazed and are waiting to be fired down at "Simply Ceramics" in Airdrie for the fundraiser. The idea is brilliant and they have held this festival numerous times in Airdrie, to raise money for the Food Bank. This year they have added the Airdronidack Chairs and white tents that will host artists to demonstrate their talent, and sell their wares. Hope to see you down there. I am still deciding what to demo, leaning towards Watercolors or Mixed Media, as Encaustic hot waxes, make me a wee bit nervous with little people hanging around. I still have a few weeks to decided. I'll surprise you, hows that?

"Beautiful and Majestic Drive into Wonderland!"

Majesty and Beauty, all wrapped in this Wonderland, I get to call home! While I do not live directly in the Canadian Rockies, I am close enough to get there and enjoy them. On clear days, I do have a spectacular view of them from my home, which I am thankful for.

The power of distraction is amazing and something to ponder. I recall hearing a story of a woman whose husband was dying of cancer. She asked him what he had always wanted to do and never done. They lived in the United States. He said he had always wanted to see the Canadian Rockies. So with that purpose in mind, she loaded up their vehicle and her husband and off they went. You know, she said that he was sooo much stronger after that trip and she is sure that is why he even lived for 3 months longer.

One of my buddies and I decided we needed to breath in some of that amazing mountain air, hike and just enjoy creation. While the grass if greener this week, we still got some great shots of our "Glorious Distraction!"

Blues and Purples are some of my forever favorite palette colors! Seems I can't get enough of them. Probably just enjoy the brilliance of the hues. Adding some majenta, copper and tan colors, this fellow began to become alive. Rainblows represent promise, so the colors here represent HOPE!

The comments on the bottom, state what is truly "Extraordinary". Starry Skies, Moonlight Nights, Good Neighbors, Close Friends, Warm Homes, Chimney Smoke, Loving Family, and Happiness! I totally agree!

Whats In A Name???????

In recent years I have paid attention to some really awesome names that the younger generation have been giving their children. Several years back, I was giving a ride to a young mom. She had a newborn and another child about 4 years old. We arrived at our destination and enjoyed the afternoon. When it was time to leave, the 4 year old went outside ahead of us, while we were getting out shoes on and saying our good-byes. When we got outside, we realized he was no where in sight. We were surrounded by forest and so the mom frantically started shouting his name. "Freedom, Freedom, Freedom!"" For you see this was the boys name "Freedom". It sent chills up my spine, to hear her shout those words. Well the good news is that we did find "Freedom" and he was happy as could be! But I never forgot his name.

I've since heard the names "Liberty", "Destiny", and met a little baby boy named "Diesel". Well I can tell for sure that little guy will never run out of gas!

In many cultures of the world today, they put alot of thought into naming their children, as they know that whenever they meet and greet you they are speaking out your destiny. Isn't that too cool????

My mother always told me that my dad picked my name. Rhea means "Friend" and I have always wanted to be everyones friend. All my life I have been living in my destiny. In school, I had a bunch of friends. If a new student or foster child came to school, I would leave all my other friends for a bit and go and be their friend.

Rhea in the Greek, also means "A stream that flows into the desert." That too has been my life. My middle names are Marie, which is Mary in English, and Pauline which means "Little Preacher." Kinda Funny hey. My maiden name Dallaire means Loyal and Faithful.

So when I meet people I often love to find out if they know the meaning of their name. More often than not you will see a common thread to who they are and how they have lived some of that out. Oh, I probably forgot to mention that Rhea is also a flower and a bird. I got a picture once at a zoo of me and that bird, so there we had Rhea and Rhea. What a hoot!

" My Chair Progress!"

Is it any wonder that I should paint "Sunflowers and Roonies" again? Oh no, I must be hooked! While I normally opt for screaming yellow Sunflowers, I felt the need to go for a "Butter" color instead. Not sure why, but it just felt right. I also felt to keep it simple. The red chair was inspired by a Barndance Sunflower painting I did for a Gallery years ago. So perhaps this Sunflower is just outside a barn. Barns are special to me and I just love them. Veronica and Cheryl of Airdrie 7 were chatting and saying I need to do more paintings with my checkered floors. Still deciding if I will incorporate one of those with the "Cute Chick". Maybe I'll find a real barn in my travels and paint a checkered floor in it too!

Perhaps to let the world in on my love for one of the most amazing women that I have ever known. My grammar, spelling may need mending, but my Mother's love has been never ending!

Where do I start? Well today is Mother's Day and tommorrow is her 82nd Birthday! Her name is Rose, which means "Giver of Love" and that is who she is, and how she has selflessly lived her life. Born the second child, of 17 children to my Acadian Grandparents, She helped raise most of her 16 siblings. She then married my Father and went on to have a "Dozen Roses" herself. Really, I'm not kidding here, my parents had 12 children and I am the 11th child. I am so blessed to have that many sibblings and feel so close to all of them. She was told not to have anymore children after baby number 5, and yet she still gave me life. Merci Beaucoup, Maman!
(Thanks so much Mom). One of my sisters died as a blue baby, as Mom had her in the back seat of a car on a cold winter night and she died 1 day later. I look forward to meeting her in heaven once day. Her name was Carmen, and I checked the meaning lately and it means "Garden Song". I believe she was suppose to be a "Singer", so maybe Mom, I'll do my destiny and hers and sing the songs, she was suppose to sing. Selah, I'll have to think on that a bit more hey?

My mom had to be strong for us and hold down the fort, after my Father's death. There were debts to be paid, and the farm to run and so many children still at home. Yet, somehow she still managed to help other families when they were going through hard times and take their children for a year or 2. I loved that about her. Our house was an open house of refuge for the hurting world and it felt right. She cooked army pots of food, and she loves still to cook today. Breakfast was never just cereal. She would chef out with pancakes, bacon, eggs, toast, homemade jams, French Sucre a Creme, which is a maple syrup that we make that is made with whipping cream and brown sugar. No calories at all (LOL). She put her whole heart in feeding her family and everyone elses too. She still does this!

Milking cows and other outdoor chores were also on her 2 do list. While perhaps not her choice, these chores had to be done as selling cream and cattle was our bread and butter. I milked cows for 1 winter and the best part was getting to skirt the kittens in the mouth as they lined up for "Steamed Milk". That was a hoot. I so hope you all get a chance to do that one day!!! Mom taught us all good work ethics and hard work and we are all so thankful. We had running water but the main difference is "We had to Run for our water!" At times in winter months, she had to melt snow to even do laundry with her old wringer washing machine.

The smell of fresh bread would linger forver in our home, as I am still convinced that she would bake about 22 loaves of bread every few days, and made donuts, cinnamon buns, etc. She planted about a 1/2 acre garden, and was quite clever. She knew she needed some eager beavers to work that patch, so she would tell us if we would work hard in the garden, we could go to the lake swimming at night. So we would work and have mudclump fights in her garden, and sure enough, we would go to the lake after supper for a swim. There too was probably a method to her madness, because if you brought a bar of soap, you could have a bath. While we didn't know it she was pulling a Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn on us!! LOL

Delegating was something she learned to be very good at. My job was to clean house, do dishes, (there were alot of them) and I still don't mind dishes today! Also after school, I had to fetch the eggs. In the fall, mom would butcher the chickens, and while I could never be around when they butchered any animals (I would usually hide under my bed) I loved to come out and pluck chickens afterwards. My sisters and I had a real hoot then. We must not have had alot of toys cause we sure could make those naked chickens do the "Cha Cha or Tango!" O.K., so now you know I have had a sheltered life! Don't pity me please, I loved it.

Mom taught us that every life is so precious and everyone adds value to this world. She would drop whatever she was doing for drop in company (even if they had 8 kids themselves) She would then proceed to feed her own crew and the new arrivals and this is simply how it was. You never heard her complain, this is how she lived her life. My mother is my HERO! "Je T'aime beaucoup Maman!"

The Chapters of her life have been many, but her story is still being written. She has been sick for a while now and I could not be there with her today, but I just wanted to share a snapshot of this Wonderful Woman, I get to call My Mother! Happy Mother's Day/ Happy Birthday!

"What is taking her so long, after all its only a chair." Tommorrow, I shall have to face my fear, and just roll up my sleeves, and let my paintbrush dance upon that chair.

Alright, so I have not started painting my chair, but it is built and ready to go. The 1st coat of primer will probably go on this afternoon, and yes I do have a secret admirer watching the process. I regret to inform even myself that he is no longer innocent. He was found guilty of catching his first mouse in the garage. Oh how I had desired to spare him of that. I bought him the best cat food available in hopes that he would be soooo happy. I guess his "Lion" Jungle instincts just took over, either that or he just really likes "FAST FOOD!"

"AIRdirondack Chairs Project" in progress!

A Brain child of Airdrie Life Magazine, and Airdrie Regional ARTS Society, a fundraiser is on the way! The plan is to build these chairs and then paint them to a theme of our choosing. They will then be on display in Airdrie, and possibly you may see them at the "Empty Bowls Fundraiser" on June 12th at Nose Creek Park, on Main Street. I have been invited to paint one and so with a bit of fear and trembling, I shall attempt to wield my paintbrush once again. While I have painted on panel before and done mural work, this is a slightly different canvas for me. I think it will be challenging and fun too. The chairs will be auctioned off at the end of summer for a fundraiser, for ARTS in AIRDRIE! YEAH!

Hum Your Hymn, Sing Your Song!" That is Susan's theme and book. Her pages are amazing and you can check them on her blog. See Airdrie 7 for this. She has even added a lovely C.D. for us all to listen to of beautiful flute music while we work in her book. She is queen of adding pockets and windows to books! You go girl!

This poem came to me as I worked in her book. "Your hum may come in pieces or you may know it from the start, but when you hum your hymn, sing it from your heart!"

I felt to add 2 dresses from old dress patterns and 2 cute little girls enjoying life's journey together. The adjust if necessary is from an old pattern too. Totally true about life too !

I thought I would like to share my "Misty Morning View from my Studio" I got up early one morning to this beautiful "Mist" just outside my creative space. I'm still enjoying Winter and all the Beauty that it brings! While it is true, that about a week or so ago, we did welcome Spring, it comes as no surprise that this morning we had 4 foot drifts in this same back yard! You could barely see the top of the greenhouse.

To me "Sacred Time" is the most important part of my day, although all other parts are sacred too. I tend to enjoy quiet time to help me plan out my day. I like to have my "Be Still" time before the rest of the world wakes up!

Cheryl's book inspired me to begin to cut up a previous canvas painting I had done. It was sitting around my studio, and I finally just decided to cut it up and add some parts of it to all the "Airdrie 7, Altered Art Books". So on the left side we have my canvas work as the base. I love that baby girl "Floria" with the cool shades. Her future looks so bright she has to wear those sunglasses! On the right I kept the words of the original book, and added a window with a key on the other side. As she keeps going on her journey, she will find that key!

These pages have been aged. Sacred Time is Ancient. I've painted a diamond on the bottom of the left page to show Cheryl that she is indeed a rare Gem! On the right hand side, I've added some HighRise Buildings as she heads towards a new Homeland full of Arts and Culture and bursting with creativity. The birds are announcing that Spring is in the air! We have even had sightings of beautiful Swans in our area. I've lived here my whole life and do not recall ever seeing these beautiful birds in Alberta. Perhaps, they have come to announce that a "New Season" is upon us. Even our gardens are awakening to reveal the beauty that they behold! Welcome Spring!

A couple of nights ago we had a "Suddenly" winter storm. It literally came out of no where. It reminded me of my trip to the Arctic in March of 2008. Our plane had just landed and missed a major blizzard by about 5 minutes. The pilot came by and told us that. He was surprised that we were up there. I had been invited to paint and teach art to the Inuit. I felt so humbled and honored to be in their presence. They are honestly some of the most precious people I have ever met! I will hold them dear to my heart forever.

We were snowed in the first day, and so a special bonding time for us. We shared, laughed, ate and told stories. They are a very warm people. I desire to do a series on them one day. I gained very special friends and even had a little girl sit by my side or on my lap all week. I had worked on a piece up front and was stuck with it, she came and I said "Christine, do you want to paint?" So she took the brush and completed my painting and she brought that piece to life." Her mother made me cry, when she told me her daughter had been hurt by white people and yet Christine would come and sit on me and be my buddy for the week! Whose life was richer? Mine, I'm blessed!

Here is my take on what Easter means to me! Some celebrate it and some don't. I just like to stop and think about what it cost Jesus. It cost him everything and He thinks we are soooo worth it. He shed precious blood to ransom me with His love. It cost me nothing, so I thought of that pain on Friday. I normally paint joyfull pieces, but somehow thought I would share (His Story ) or (History). No worries, He is no longer on that cross! Happy Easter/ Passover Everyone!

This creation was done for a demo for a Children's class I was asked to teach at the Library, on Feb 20.

I have to say that I was very impressed with the interest and talent these young artists are bringing to the table. I had 17 students and they were soooooo good! It was indeed a pleasure to be with them, and I feel richer for it. While having taught children for 13 plus years, is had been a while since I have had a 3 year old in my lap. She too was intent on creating masterpieces. The students were from 3 - 12, and I thought I should post some of their amazing talent, so buckle up and enjoy!!! Special thanks to Ryan, who is on staff at the Library, and helps with the Children's class! (I should mention that some of these works are built up with many layers of patience from these "Awesome Budding Artists" Way to go Team!!!! I apologize to the students whose work is not displayed here. While we did take many photos, not sure why some did not turn out.

The photo transfer on the right was dipped into Encaustic wax. Even the once worn accessories can add a nice touch! By reclaiming the old, you can come up with the "New"

Life seems to rush by at whirlwinds speeds at times. So much for all of us to do and so little time. The saying "BE STILL" can be used so much, because it means so much. A dear friend's husband had a massive heart attack yesterday, and again it wakes me up. We are praying and believing for him to pull through. Studies have indicated that medical patients who get prayer do so much better that those who don't. Prayer is free and costs us nothing, and could change everything!
For me this is a reminder of how fragile life is. Maybe "Bill" here is giving us all a "WAKE UP" call.

Painting with a friend is always an inspiration. My Girlfriend was working on several Mixed Media pieces as I had been. Suddenly I got this urge to get the oils out and do something spontaneous. So this crowd evolved, then came the river and the grand finale of a fountain. Lesson Learned: Catch those Suddenly moments and do something to make your heart sing!

Back in January, I took a journey into Figurative painting. I haven't done alot of this type of work and just thought it would be fun to switch it up and take a workshop. I took "Ingrid Christensen's classdown at Cactus Art. Ingrid was a great teacher and I loved her excercises to loosen us up. We had 15 minutes to work on a pose before the model would change position. Here are a results of my journey.

So many times I can get caught up with the outcome, when I am simply to enjoy the process. When I focus on having fun again, it appears in my work. I like that idea. After having had 2 frustrated attempts, I dug this piece out of hiding and reworked it with a palette knife and waas pleasantly surprised at the turn of events. The reds, oranges, and greens are from the previous work, and are now seeing a better day! Hope today you too can see the "Beauty Within"

"The cat came back! (True Story)

This one is funny! My son came home last night and told a "Tale" he had heard on the news. He said a lady in Manitoba, whose cat went missing 14 years ago has returned. What a hoot! He was found because he had a tatoo. One can only imagine that if he could talk, he would have a few "Tales" of his own. Maybe a lesson to learn about "Not ever giving up on our dreams"

As for my week so far, been laying low, hanging out with my furry friend (Who by the way had upset some paint in my studio and my water container is now dumped into my palette, overturned the garbage container.....etc) Just being a wee bit of a rascal, but ever holding onto his cuteness, making it somewhat difficult to scold!!!!!!!! Anyways loads of ideas for the coming year, lots of projects on the go, and gearing up to teach a children's class at the Library on Feb 20th. That should be a Blast!

How could one possibly attempt to capture the breath taking moments of the Rockies? Yet many artists do and with great success. This was one of those moments in my attempting way back in 2004. Looking back, I am glad I tried. It was from a photograph my son took and this spurred me on. Do like the way the Mountains turned out. Also know that much could be redone. Always good to remember from where you have come from!

It is indeed "Soup For The Soul" I do believe mankind needs it more than we realize. It is healing for the inmost parts, a way to know all will be well again! A quiet place has a Beauty of its own.

Memories of Grandma's house are something I will always treasure. She always had open arms, and a smile. She laughed alot, small wonder she always had company. Her house was a house of joy. She had so many grandchildren and still made each one feel like you were her one and only. She is no longer here on earth, but this painting reminds me of her. I loved that screen door, that let all the fresh air in, and you could hear the birds sing in her kitchen. She would have flowers and bouquets everywhere. This one's for you Grandma!

Welcome to my new world. Earlier this summer, my family relocated to a Country Haven. I now have the Studio of my dreams, gleaming in the morning sun, over looking lush fields. The walkout basement is perfect with its huge Gallery walls. To the west we have a panoramic view of the Rocky Mountains, dripping with this white icing that we call snow! I absolutely love the fact that we have 4 wonderful seasons here, each brings with it a beauty of its own! I am blessed, beyond measure. In this section of one of my walls, you will see Encaustic, Scratching, Oil, Smashed Tile Mosiac, acrylic and Mixed Media.
